Membership Criteria

The Orange County Homicide Investigators Association has three classes of membership:

Sworn. Sworn membership shall be open to any person presently employed by any law enforcement agency as a sworn peace officer and who has successfully completed a law enforcement academy. Sworn membership also requires completing a membership application, paying required dues and abiding by all the bylaws of this corporation. All Sworn members who are current in their dues and assessments, and who are otherwise in good standing, shall have a full voice in all corporate business and shall be eligible for election to the Board of Directors.

Non-Sworn. Non-Sworn membership shall be open to non-sworn employees and support staff of agencies with a professional interest in law enforcement, prosecution, victim advocacy or forensics, such as law enforcement agencies, district attorney’s offices, crime labs and victim advocacy groups. Non-Sworn membership also requires completing a membership application, paying required dues and abiding by all the bylaws of this corporation. Non-Sworn members who are current in their dues and assessments, and who are otherwise in good standing, shall be eligible for all benefits in this association except as follows:

    • A Non-Sworn member shall not hold an elective office in this association.

    • A Non-Sworn member shall not have a vote in this association.

    • A Non-Sworn member may be excluded from certain training sessions and meetings at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

Retired. Any member in good standing who retires from active service for any reason may continue his/her membership in this association by paying annual dues. Retired membership also requires completing a membership application, paying required dues and abiding by all the bylaws of this corporation. Retired members who are current in their dues and assessments, and who are otherwise in good standing, shall be eligible for all benefits in this association except as follows:

  • A Retired member shall not hold an elective office in this association.

  • A Retired member shall not have a vote in this association.

  • A Retired member may be excluded from certain training sessions and meetings at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
