Just after midnight on Monday, September 7, 2015, Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded to Patsy's Irish Pub in Laguna Niguel regarding a stabbing. The victim, Shayan Mazroei, was lured outside of the bar by the suspect, Craig Tanber, and a fight occurred. During the fight, Tanber stabbed Mazroei in the chest and immediately fled on foot. Mazroei was transported to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injury shortly after he arrived. OCSD homicide investigators responded to the scene and launched an exhaustive investigation that involved interviews with numerous witnesses and a review of video evidence. The investigation led to the identification of Tanber as the murder suspect. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Tanber and he was taken into custody several weeks later. In December of 2019, a jury convicted Tanber of second degree murder. He was sentenced to a prison term of 56 years to life.
